Katrina

If you can give, please give. I suppose it's hard for anywhere else in the country to really understand what's going on down here in the gulf, but there are MILLIONS of people without homes, clothes, food, water, shelter, the basics that we take for granted every day. It's not people who lost TVs and computers. It's people that lost everything they owned. Their homes are sitting under 20 feet of water, or perhaps their homes aren't even there anymore.

Thousands of people have been pouring in Houston. Churches and becoming red cross shelters. The astrodome is becoming a shelter. Gallery Furniture has offered their beds to people to sleep on. It's almost crazy to think about how much our population has grown in the last few days to accomadate all these people who have literally NOTHING.

Today I stopped by the grocery store and bought a ton of diapers and baby food. There is something about becoming a mother that makes me think first of those little kids and how much their mom's would rather feed them and ensure they were taken care of first. So that's where I'm putting my money. Some of the guys are work will be taking it all to a Red Cross Shelter. I hope it helps out some of those families who really need it.

To be honest, we worry about how this is going to affect our city. We're worried that desperate people, those bad apples, will cause problems. We're worried about the unemployment and how a large number of homeless people will affect our city. Of course, these things are selfish, but it's worth considering. It's worth being aware of. We need to get the people from New Orleans back on their feet as soon as possible, so the lives of everyone in the gulf can return to normal.

Especially with the forecast of potentially two more hurricanes coming our way. Because let's face it. The Gulf can't take another Katrina. :(

We don't have hurricanes up here... I can imagine how horrible they must be. :(

There are a lot of scummy people in this town. It's full of drunks and drug dealers. Not exactly a happy place. However, some people are able to look pass it, and see the happier things in life.

I think so too. And I'm glad people are doing something. It's like some other country down in New Orleans, people rioting everywhere, somebody shot their sister in the head over a bag of ice. It's just wild, like it's not the US or something. One of my good friend's aunt is dying after a beam fell on her. :( It's such a terrible thing. So terrible. But yes, I'll be donating what I can. ^^

Oh, and you might want to check this out if you want to help. For every person that signs up, $1 is donated to the NOLA childrens hospital.

Due to gas prices draining my weekly funds, I could only afford to donate $50. ;_; However, this-coming week, I should be able to donate another $50. ^_^

hi! I found your name by searching dieting communities. Then I noticed that you are from Houston and 24. I am also in Houston, and I am 23. I am a mother of 1, soon to be 2. I was wanting to join an active community to be part of once I have the baby so I can start to lose my weight.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. If you are interested, please add me. I am in the process of a separtion so my personal journal is filled with a lot of emotions. So beware of my rambling! :)

That's what I get for not getting my info updated on time ;) I'm actually 26 now! (time goes by too fast). I'm getting married in two weeks and soon also to be the mother of two (due: jan 23, 2006).

I wish my community was more active, but it's not (and being pregnant, can't really diet), however, once my babies are born I'll be looking to finish my weight loss too! I'd love to add you as a friend. :)
